Gold Finally!!!

An Olympic Gold after a longggggggggggg gap of 28 years... That too in an individual event.. Yahoo!!! Something that India has never achieved in its history.. Yipee... This was my initial reaction when the news was shared by one of my office colleagues..

But with the excitement, there was also a feeling of relief... A relief that the future sportsperson of India would not have to carry the burden of history... A relief that Indians have the ability to win gold in the Olympics... A relief that Indians could compete with the best and still win... Way to Go! Bindra....

Thankfully this historic event has brought me out of the blogging slumber... Hope I don't go back to my slumber again...

But i dont think this is a victory for India as a sporting nation but for a man who has been passionate about his sport and worked enormously hard backed by his financial stability for the trainings required and a family that provided everything for him to win...India as a country has a long long way to go before producing a genuine gold by an ordinary athlete..

@ saravanan,
No.. It is not a victory for India... It is more a victory for Bindra & his family... But it is to the credit of the nation that helped his father to provide Bindra with all the facilities required by him.. That is why i still believe Government spending crores of money in sport in the name of sports development is not the best way to win olympic medals..
